••• You should recognize and know "and use" God's Hebrew Name! It is יהוה and sounds like
to English speakers... God Himself wrote with his own finger on stone tablets He then gave to Moses. (Exo 31:18) Using the Diving Name of our Creator is a uniting force in this divided world! •••
Verse ten of 1 Corinthians 1:10-31...
Most every single church and religious sect makes the terrible mistake of believing verse 10 means "they" must unite "their sheep," and then decide doing so means creating themselves a set of rules of unification [and segregation]. That leads to their "group doctrine" which their leaders conspire to create for "their sect." The Bible and these verses are actually teaching just the opposite. (Mat 23:1-15) As Paul went on to explain in the verses that follow, what unites and identifies (Mal 3:16-4:3) all sincere Christians is they are each one listening to and following Jesus Christ. Christians are not united because they join together to establish and follow doctrines of men, rules they think are right. (Mat 15:7-9) Christians are united because they do not! All Christians individually follow Jesus Christ... They all call themselves Christian. (Acts 11:26) Verse 10 misleads many people because they fail or refuse to read and follow the rest of the Chapter, as Paul goes on to explain "the real way" they must be united: By following Jesus Christ, only Christ.
1 Corinthians 1:10-31 GNB
(10) By the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ I appeal to all of you, my friends, to agree in what you say, so that there will be no divisions among you. Be completely united, with only one thought and one purpose. (11) For some people from Chloe's family have told me quite plainly, my friends, that there are quarrels among you. (12) Let me put it this way: each one of you says something different. One says, "I follow Paul"; another, "I follow Apollos"; another, "I follow Peter"; and another, "I follow Christ." (13) Christ has been divided into groups! Was it Paul who died on the cross for you? Were you baptized as Paul's disciples? (14) I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius. (15) No one can say, then, that you were baptized as my disciples. (16) (Oh yes, I also baptized Stephanas and his family; but I can't remember whether I baptized anyone else.) (17) Christ did not send me to baptize. He sent me to tell the Good News, and to tell it without using the language of human wisdom, in order to make sure that Christ's death on the cross is not robbed of its power. (18) For the message about Christ's death on the cross is nonsense to those who are being lost; but for us who are being saved it is God's power. (19) The scripture says, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and set aside the understanding of the scholars." [Isaiah 29:14] (20) So then, where does that leave the wise? or the scholars? or the skillful debaters of this world? God has shown that this world's wisdom is foolishness! (21) For God in his wisdom made it impossible for people to know him by means of their own wisdom. Instead, by means of the so-called "foolish" message we preach, God decided to save those who believe. (22) Jews want miracles for proof, and Greeks look for wisdom. (23) As for us, we proclaim the crucified Christ, a message that is offensive to the Jews and nonsense to the Gentiles; (24) but for those whom God has called, both Jews and Gentiles, this message is Christ, who is the power of God and the wisdom of God. (25) For what seems to be God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and what seems to be God's weakness is stronger than human strength. (26) Now remember what you were, my friends, when God called you. From the human point of view few of you were wise or powerful or of high social standing. (27) God purposely chose what the world considers nonsense in order to shame the wise, and he chose what the world considers weak in order to shame the powerful. (28) He chose what the world looks down on and despises and thinks is nothing, in order to destroy what the world thinks is important. (29) This means that no one can boast in God's presence. (30) But God has brought you into union with Christ Jesus, and God has made Christ to be our wisdom. By him we are put right with God; we become God's holy people and are set free. (31) So then, as the scripture says, "Whoever wants to boast must boast of what the Lord [יהוה - Jer 9:24]
has done."
1 Corinthians 1:10-31 ALT
(10) Now I am calling on [or, pleading with] you*, brothers [and sisters], through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you* all shall be speaking the same [thing] [fig., shall be in agreement], and [there] shall not be divisions among you*, but you* shall have been perfected in the same mind and in the same judgment [or, purpose].
(11) For it was clearly shown to me concerning you*, my brothers [and sisters], by the [members] of Chloe's [household], that [there] are quarrels among you*.
(12) Now I say this, that each of you* are saying, "_I_ indeed am of Paul," "But I of Apollos," "But I of Cephas," "But I of Christ."
(13) Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for you*, was he? Or were you* baptized [or, immersed, and throughout epistle] into the name of Paul?
(14) I give thanks to God that I baptized none of you*, except Crispus and Gaius,
(15) lest anyone should say that I baptized into my name.
(16) Now I baptized also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that I do not know whether I baptized any other [or, anyone else].
(17) For Christ did not send me to be baptizing, _but_ to be proclaiming the Gospel; not in wisdom of word [or, cleverness of speech], so that the cross of Christ should not be made of no effect [or, be deprived of its power].
(18) For the word of the cross indeed is foolishness to the ones perishing, but to us, the ones being saved, it is [the] power of God!
(19) For it has been written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the intelligence of the intelligent I will bring to nothing." [Isaiah 29:14]
(20) Where [is the] wise? Where [is the] scribe? Where [is the] skillful debater of this age? God made the wisdom of this world foolish, did He not?
(21) For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the proclamation [or, the message being preached] to save the ones believing.
(22) Since also Jews ask for a sign, and Greeks seek wisdom,
(23) but _we_ proclaim Christ [as] having been crucified, to Jews indeed a stumbling-block and to Greeks foolishness,
(24) but to them, the ones called, both to Jews and to Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
(25) Because the foolishness of God is wiser than people, and the weakness of God is stronger than people.
(26) For you* see your* calling, brothers [and sisters], that [there are] not many wise according to [the] flesh, not many powerful, not many noble [or, of high social status];
(27) _but_ God chose the foolish [things] of the world, so that He should be humiliating the wise; and God chose the weak [things] of the world, so that He should be humiliating the strong;
(28) and God chose the insignificant [things] of the world and the [things] having been despised [or, looked down on], and the [things] not being, so that He should nullify the [things] being [fig., which exist],
(29) in order that all flesh shall not [or, no flesh shall] boast before God.
(30) But by Him _you*_ are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption,
(31) so that, just as it has been written, "The one boasting, let him be boasting in [the] LORD." [יהוה - Jer 9:24]
1 Corinthians 1:10-31 LITV
(10) Now I exhort you, brothers, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that you all say the same thing, and there be no divisions among you, but you be united in the same mind and in the same judgment.
(11) For concerning you, my brothers, it was shown to me by those of Chloe that there are strifes among you.
(12) But I say this, that each of you says, I am of Paul, and I of Apollos, and I of Cephas, and I of Christ.
(13) Has Christ been divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized into the name of Paul?
(14) I give thanks to God that I did not baptize any one of you, except Crispus and Gaius,
(15) that not anyone should say that you were baptized in my name.
(16) And I also baptized the house of Stephanas. For the rest, I do not know if I baptized any other.
(17) For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to announce the gospel, not in wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ be made of no effect.
(18) For the Word of the cross is foolishness to those being lost, but to us being saved, it is the power of God.
(19) For it has been written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will set aside the understanding of the understanding ones." [Isaiah 29:14]
(20) Where is the wise? Where the scribe? Where the lawyer of this world? Did God not make the wisdom of this world foolish?
(21) For since in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom did not know God, God was pleased through the foolishness of preaching to save the ones believing.
(22) And since Jews ask for a sign, and Greeks seek wisdom,
(23) we, on the other hand, preach Christ crucified (truly an offense to Jews, and foolishness to Greeks),
(24) but to the called out ones, both to Jews and to Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God;
(25) because the foolish thing of God is wiser than men, and the weak thing of God is stronger than men.
(26) For you see your calling, brothers, that there are not many wise according to flesh, nor many powerful, not many wellborn.
(27) But God chose the foolish things of the world that the wise might be put to shame, and God chose the weak things of the world so that He might put to shame the strong things.
(28) And God chose the low-born of the world, and the despised, and the things that are not, so that He might bring to nothing the things that are,
(29) so that no flesh might glory in His presence.
(30) But of Him, you are in Christ Jesus, who was made to us wisdom from God, both righteousness and sanctification and redemption,
(31) so that even as it has been written, "He that glories, let him glory in" the "Lord." [Jehovah - Jer 9:24]
1 Corinthians 1:10-31 NWT
10 Now I exhort you, brothers, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that you should all speak in agreement, and that there should not be divisions among you, but that you may be fitly united in the same mind and in the same line of thought. 11 For the disclosure was made to me about you, my brothers, by those of [the house of] Chloe, that dissensions exist among you. 12 What I mean is this, that each one of you says: "I belong to Paul," "But I to Apollos," "But I to Cephas," "But I to Christ." 13 The Christ exists divided. Paul was not impaled for you, was he? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I am thankful I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name. 16 Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas. As for the rest, I do not know whether I baptized anybody else. 17 For Christ dispatched me, not to go baptizing, but to go declaring the good news, not with wisdom of speech, that the torture stake of the Christ should not be made useless. 18 For the speech about the torture stake is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is God's power. 19 For it is written: "I will make the wisdom of the wise [men] perish, and the intelligence of the intellectual [men] I will shove aside." 20 Where is the wise man? Where the scribe? Where the debater of this system of things? Did not God make the wisdom of the world foolish? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom did not get to know God, God saw good through the foolishness of what is preached to save those believing. 22 For both the Jews ask for signs and the Greeks look for wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ impaled, to the Jews a cause for stumbling but to the nations foolishness; 24 however, to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because a foolish thing of God is wiser than men, and a weak thing of God is stronger than men. 26 For you behold his calling of you, brothers, that not many wise in a fleshly way were called, not many powerful, not many of noble birth; 27 but God chose the foolish things of the world, that he might put the wise men to shame; and God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put the strong things to shame; 28 and God chose the ignoble things of the world and the things looked down upon, the things that are not, that he might bring to nothing the things that are, 29 in order that no flesh might boast in the sight of God. 30 But it is due to him that you are in union with Christ Jesus, who has become to us wisdom from God, also righteousness and sanctification and release by ransom; 31 that it may be just as it is written: "He that boasts, let him boast in Jehovah (יהוה)." You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals. The Translations we quote are:
