1 Timothy 1:3-7 BBE
(3) It was my desire, when I went on into Macedonia, that you might make a stop at Ephesus, to give orders to certain men not to put forward a different teaching,
(4) Or to give attention to stories and long lists of generations, from which come questionings and doubts, in place of God's ordered way of life which is in faith;
(5) But the effect of the order is love coming from a clean heart, and a knowledge of what is right, and true faith:
(6) From which some have been turned away, giving themselves to foolish talking;
(7) Desiring to be teachers of the law, though they have no knowledge of what they say or of the statements which they make so certainly.

(3) When I was leaving for Macedonia, I asked you to stay on in Ephesus and warn certain people there to stop spreading their false teachings.
(4) You needed to warn them to stop wasting their time on senseless stories and endless lists of ancestors. Such things only cause arguments. They don't help anyone to do God's work that can only be done by faith.
(5) You must teach people to have genuine love, as well as a good conscience and true faith.
(6) There are some who have given up these for nothing but empty talk.
(7) They want to be teachers of the Law of Moses. But they don't know what they are talking about, even though they think they do.

3 Just as I encouraged you to stay in Ephesus when I was about to go my way into Macedonia, so I do now, that you might command certain ones not to teach different doctrine, 4 nor to pay attention to false stories and to genealogies, which end up in nothing, but which furnish questions for research rather than a dispensing of anything by God in connection with faith. 5 Really the objective of this mandate is love out of a clean heart and out of a good conscience and out of faith without hypocrisy. 6 By deviating from these things certain ones have been turned aside into idle talk, 7 wanting to be teachers of law, but not perceiving either the things they are saying or the things about which they are making strong assertions.

(3) Just as I urged you to remain in Ephesus while I traveled to Macedonia, so that you should give strict orders to certain [ones] to stop teaching a different [or, heretical] doctrine
(4) and to stop paying attention to myths and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than [furthering the] administration [or, plan] of God, the [one] in faith.
(5) But the end [or, goal] of the command is love out of a pure heart [fig., inner self] and a good conscience and a sincere faith,
(6) from which certain [ones], having strayed [or, deviated] from, were turned aside to futile discourse,
(7) desiring to be teachers of the Law, not understanding neither what they are saying, nor concerning what they confidently assert.
