2 Kings 2:19-25 GNB Some men from Jericho went to Elisha and said, "As you know, sir, this is a fine city, but the water is bad and causes miscarriages." (20) "Put some salt in a new bowl and bring it to me," he ordered. They brought it to him, (21) and he went to the spring, threw the salt in the water, and said, "This is what the LORD () says: 'I make this water pure, and it will not cause any more deaths or miscarriages.' " (22) And that water has been pure ever since, just as Elisha said it would be. (23) Elisha left Jericho to go to Bethel, and on the way some boys came out of a town and made fun of him. "Get out of here, baldy!" they shouted. (24) Elisha turned around, glared at them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD ( יהוה ). Then two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the boys to pieces. (25) Elisha went on to Mount Carmel and later returned to Samaria.2 Kings 2:19-25 LITV And the men of the city said to Elisha, Behold, now, the site of the city is good, as my lord sees, but the waters are bad; and the ground causes barrenness. (20) And he said, Bring a new dish to me, and put salt there. And they took it to him. (21) And he went out to the source of the waters and threw salt there, and said, So says Jehovah (), I have given healing to these waters; there shall not be death and sterility there any more. (22) And the waters were healed to this day, according to the word of Elisha that he spoke. (23) And he went up from there to Bethel. And he was going up in the highway. And little boys came out from the city and mocked him, and said to him, Go up, bald head! Go up, bald head! (24) And he turned behind him and saw them, and declared them vile in the name of Jehovah ( יהוה ). And two bears came out of the forest and tore forty two boys of them. (25) And he went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.2 Kings 2:19-25 CEV One day the people of Jericho said, "Elisha, you can see that our city is in a good spot. But the water from our spring is so bad that it even keeps our crops from growing." (20) He replied, "Put some salt in a new bowl and bring it to me." They brought him the bowl of salt, (21) and he carried it to the spring. He threw the salt into the water and said, "The LORD () has made this water pure again. From now on you'll be able to grow crops, and no one will starve." (22) The water has been fine ever since, just as Elisha said. (23) Elisha left and headed toward Bethel. Along the way some boys started making fun of him by shouting, "Go away, baldy! Get out of here!" (24) Elisha turned around and stared at the boys. Then he cursed them in the name of the LORD ( יהוה ). Right away two bears ran out of the woods and ripped to pieces forty-two of the boys. (25) Elisha went up to Mount Carmel, then returned to Samaria.2 Kings 2:19-25 NWT 19 In time the men of the city said to E·li´sha: “Here, now, the situation of the city is good, just as my master is seeing; but the water is bad, and the land is causing miscarriages.” 20 At that he said: “Fetch me a small new bowl and put salt in it.” So they fetched it for him. 21 Then he went on out to the source of the water and threw salt in it and said: “This is what Jehovah () has said, ‘I do make this water healthful. No more will death or any causing of miscarriages result from it.’” 22 And the water continues healed down to this day, according to E·li´sha’s word that he spoke. 23 And he proceeded to go up from there to Beth´el. As he was going up on the way, there were small boys that came out from the city and began to jeer him and that kept saying to him: “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!” 24 Finally he turned behind him and saw them and called down evil upon them in the name of Jehovah ( יהוה ). Then two she-bears came out from the woods and went tearing to pieces forty-two children of their number. 25 And he kept going from there to Mount Car´mel, and from there he returned to Sa·mar´i·a.
