Luke 17:20-37 GW The Pharisees asked Jesus when the kingdom of God would come. He answered them, "People can't observe the coming of the kingdom of God. (21) They can't say, 'Here it is!' or 'There it is!' You see, the kingdom of God is within you." [The personal benefit of the Kingdom of Christ lies in your actually believing in it.] (22) Jesus said to his disciples, "The time will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, [They would look back nostalgically to his presence, or hope in his return as King.] but you will not see it. (23) People will say, 'There he is!' or 'Here he is!' Don't run after those people. (24) The day of the Son of Man will be like lightning that flashes from one end of the sky to the other. [The light of Christ is shining out of the Gospels for all to see.] (25) But first he must suffer a lot and be rejected by the people of his day. (26) "When the Son of Man comes again, the situation will be like the time of Noah. (27) People were eating, drinking, and getting married until the day that Noah went into the ship. Then the flood destroyed all of them. (28) "The situation will also be like the time of Lot. People were eating, drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. (29) But on the day that Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from the sky and destroyed all of them. (30) The day when the Son of Man is revealed will be like that. (31) "On that day those who are on the roof shouldn't come down to get their belongings out of their houses. Those who are in the field shouldn't turn back. (32) Remember Lot's wife! (33) Those who try to save their lives will lose them, and those who lose their lives will save them. (34) "I can guarantee that on that night if two people are in one bed, one will be taken and the other one will be left. (35) Two women will be grinding grain together. One will be taken, and the other one will be left." (36) (OMITTED TEXT) (37) They asked him, "Where, Lord?" Jesus told them, "(Eagles) Vultures will gather wherever there is a dead body (of Christ)." *

* The teachings of Christ are what is left over of him on earth. They can be thought of as his body or remains. That idea is consistent with him often saying we must eat his flesh and drink his blood, (John 6:53) or take in waters of life from him. (John 4:14)

(24) For as in a thunderstorm the bright light is seen from one end of the sky to the other, so will the Son of man be when his time comes. (26) And as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the day of the Son of man. (27) They were feasting and taking wives and getting married, till the day of the overflowing of the waters, when Noah went into the ark, and they all came to destruction. (28) In the same way, in the days of Lot; they were feasting and trading, they were planting and building; (29) But on the day when Lot went out of Sodom, fire came down from heaven and destruction came on them all. (30) So will it be in the day of the revelation of the Son of man. (31) On that day, if anyone is on the roof of the house, and his goods are in the house, let him not go down to take them away; and let him who is in the field not go back to his house. (32) Keep in mind Lot's wife. (33) If anyone makes an attempt to keep his life, it will be taken from him, but if anyone gives up his life, he will keep it. (34) I say to you, In that night there will be two men sleeping in one bed, and one will be taken away and the other let go. (35) Two women will be crushing grain together; one will be taken away and the other let go. (37) And they, answering him, said, Where, Lord? And he said to them, Where the body is, there will the eagles come together.*

(31) In that day, he who shall be on the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not go down to take it away; and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. (32) Remember the wife of Lot. (33) Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it, and whosoever shall lose it shall preserve it. (34) I say to you, In that night there shall be two men upon one bed; one shall be seized and the other shall be let go. (35) Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be seized and the other shall be let go. (36) Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be seized and the other let go. (37) And answering they say to him, Where, Lord? And he said to them, Where the body is , there the eagles will be gathered together. *
