Proverbs 11:17-19 GNB . . .You do yourself a favor when you are kind. If you are cruel, you only hurt yourself. (18) Wicked people do not really gain anything, but if you do what is right, you are certain to be rewarded. (19) Anyone who is determined to do right will live, but anyone who insists on doing wrong will die.

Proverbs 11:17-19 CEV . . .Kindness is rewarded-- but if you are cruel, you hurt yourself. (18) Meanness gets you nowhere, but goodness is rewarded. (19) Always do the right thing, and you will live; keep on doing wrong, and you will die.

Proverbs 11:17-19 BBE . . .The man who has mercy will be rewarded, but the cruel man is the cause of trouble to himself. (18) The sinner gets the payment of deceit; but his reward is certain who puts in the seed of righteousness. (19) So righteousness gives life; but he who goes after evil gets death for himself.

Proverbs 11:17-19 GW . . .A merciful person helps himself, but a cruel person hurts himself. (18) A wicked person earns dishonest wages, but whoever spreads righteousness earns honest pay. (19) As righteousness leads to life, so whoever pursues evil finds his own death.

Proverbs 11:17-19 ESV . . .A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself. (18) The wicked earns deceptive wages, but one who sows righteousness gets a sure reward. (19) Whoever is steadfast in righteousness will live, but he who pursues evil will die.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
