These verses seem nearly too wondrous for a mere mortal to comprehend.
יהוה here warns his servant Israel, which today refers to all his
faithful people in all the earth and who have ever lived, (
Gal 3:19-29) to flee from Babylon the Great; she being used throughout the Bible to represent the worldwide
empire of false
religion. (
Rev 14:6-8,
Rev 18:18;
Rev 17:1-2) God references the forty years the Jews wandered in the wilderness, and of how He made water come forth out of rock for them. That represents Jesus, he being the stone the builders rejected, (
Mat 21:42) to his being killed [the stone split], and then, to the waters from the stone being his teachings of life. (
John 4:7-26)
