Test those who claim to teach about Jesus!

Revelation 2:1-3 ALT . . ."To the angel of the assembly in Ephesus write: 'These [things] says the One holding the seven stars in His right hand, the One walking about in [the] middle of the seven golden lampstands: (2) 'I know your works and your labor and your patient endurance, and that you are not able to tolerate evil [people]. And you tested the ones saying themselves to be apostles [fig., who say they are apostles] and are not, and found them [to be] liars; (3) 'And you have perseverance and [have] endured because of My name, and you did not grow weary.

Don't be deceived. The resurrected Jesus here warns you must test "all" those who claim they are Christians! Remove the scales from your eyes. (Acts 9:17-18)
•  Jesus warned us many times about false prophets. (Mat 24:24-28; Mat 23:1-15) He also said we can recognize false Christians by their bad fruitage. (Mat 7:15-24) Doing the works of God simply means listening to and following his Son. (John 6:28-29)
•  Good works, then, means directing others to read the words of Jesus Christ for themselves.
•  Bad works is directing people to some religious sect or organization; asserting their approval of membership has value.
•  On a personal note, I was influenced away from truth by Religionists for much of forty years of my early life. My deliverance or awakening? When I finally heard God's command to listen to Jesus, (Mat 17:5) and started actually doing that. It was like scales fell from my eyes. (Acts 9:17-18) For some thirty years since, I have been using Christ's words to set myself free of the influence of Religionist bad fruitage; free of their lies and misunderstandings. (John 8:31-32)
•  Just know: I can't help you beyond directing to read the words of Jesus Christ for yourself. (John 18:37) It's most important for you to understand, no one else can either! (Mat 23:1-15) There is no short cut. You must become a friend of Jesus Christ by becoming familiar with what he said! (John 15:11-16) Really, it's only four short Books: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John

Revelation 2:1-3 Darby . . .To the angel of the assembly in Ephesus write: These things says he that holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lamps: (2) I know thy works and thy labour, and thine endurance, and that thou canst not bear evil men ; and thou hast tried them who say that themselves are apostles and are not, and hast found them liars; (3) and endurest, and hast borne for my name's sake, and hast not wearied:

Revelation 2:1-3 LITV . . .To the angel of the Ephesian assembly, write: These things says the One holding the seven stars in His right hand, He walking in the midst of the seven golden lampstands: (2) I know your works, and your labor, and your patience, and that you cannot bear evil ones; and you tried those pretending to be apostles and are not, and found them to be liars. (3) And you bore up and have patience and on account of My name you have labored and have not wearied.

Revelation 2:1-3 YLT . . .`To the messenger of the Ephesian assembly write: These things saith he who is holding the seven stars in his right hand, who is walking in the midst of the seven lamp-stands--the golden: (2) I have known thy works, and thy labour, and thy endurance, and that thou art not able to bear evil ones, and that thou hast tried those saying themselves to be apostles and are not, and hast found them liars, (3) and thou didst bear, and hast endurance, and because of my name hast toiled, and hast not been weary.

Revelation 2:1-3 LitNT . . .TO THE ANGEL OF THE EPHESIAN ASSEMBLY WRITE : THESE THINGS SAYS HE WHO HOLDS THE SEVEN STARS IN HIS RIGHT HAND, WHO WALKS IN [THE] MIDST OF THE SEVEN LAMPSTANDS GOLDEN. (2) I KNOW THY WORKS, AND LABOUR THY, AND ENDURANCE THY, AND THAT THOU CANST NOT BEAR EVIL [ONES]; AND THOU DIDST TRY THOSE WHO DECLARE [THEMSELVES] TO BE APOSTLES AND ARE NOT AND DIDST FIND THEM LIARS; (3) AND DIDST BEAR AND ENDURANCE HAST, AND FOR THE SAKE OF MY NAME HAST LABOURED AND HAST NOT WEARIED :

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
